Hello!  Welcome to my school website.  I'm Heather Roe, an English teacher at Satsuma High School.  I am married to Wayne Roe and we have two little boys, Reed and AJ.  Reed is four years old and AJ is one year old.  We also have a fur baby, Miss Jaycee Mae.  She is part Labrador Retriever and part Golden Retriever, which means she is full of energy, just like the boys.  I love an energetic lifestyle, so I strive to run my classroom the same way.

I am so happy to be teaching at Satsuma High School.  I grew up in the community, moved away to college (Roll Tide!), and moved right back home to Satsuma.  While away at college, I studied many different avenues-sports medicine, journalism, theatre, communications, English, education, etc.  I liked it all and couldn't make up my mind!  So in the end, I decided teaching was the field I could best use the talents God gave me.  I come from a family full of educators which means teaching runs in my blood.  There is nothing more thrilling to me than that "lightbulb look" when a student finally gets what I am teaching.

My husband is a vice president at Community Bank, and he is jealous of my summer hours.  I tell him all the time that he could go back to school and become a teacher.  He says, "Nah, that's too much work for me!"  He's right.  Teaching is a lot of work, even in the summer!  :)  I love what I do though.  Before teaching at Satsuma, I taught at Murphy High School for 4 years.  Before that, I worked in college at Tuscaloosa Tumbling Tides as a gymnastics coach.  Teaching of some sort has always interested me.

I am currently in the middle of attaining a Master's of Education degree, studying Instructional Leadership at the University of West Alabama. I am sharing this information with you because I believe that a person can easily become comfortable and stagnant if not pursuing new goals.  I expect to see the same drive in my students that I model for them.

If you are on my page as a future student, or as a parent of a future student, here's what you can expect from me.  I will be fair to you.  I will communicate with you, and teach you how to communicate with others.  I lead a very active learning environment.  I am not a lecturer, but I will guide you to the path and let you go down it on your own.  We explore in my classroom.  We love to read in my classroom.  We act, we draw, we write, we memorize, we my classroom.  I will not tolerate laziness.  I will not tolerate bullying.  I like to keep my classroom as bright and cheery as I am.  You can expect to work hard.  You can expect to laugh and make memories.  You can expect a good year!
