Welcome to Technology!

Satsuma City Schools uses instructional technology as one way of enhancing the mission to provide a creative, rigorous, and technology-rich academic environment which encourages students to become independent, analytical, and self-motivated learners who can make positive, caring, and ethical contributions to the community. Excellence in education requires that technology is seamlessly integrated throughout the education program. From Kindergarten, students are exposed to various technologies and it is used daily in instruction by both students and teachers, focusing on the skills that will equip today's learners for tomorrow's world of work.  Technology in Satsuma City Schools is not just used for instruction.  From our fire and air conditioning controllers, from accounting to technology support, from online registration to online payment, every department in our school system uses technology to work more effectively and efficiently.

Student Online Safety

Due to the COPPA law, many websites require users under the age of 13, and sometimes under the age of 18, to obtain their parent's permission before creating an individual online account. The sites listed below require such permission. Depending on the site, the Terms of Use generally may ask that the permission come in the form of signed forms, credit cards, etc. Because many sites have great educational value and because asking parents to repeatedly submit permission forms is burdensome, the Satsuma City Schools' Student Code of Conduct now contains a provision for school administrators to authorize the use of certain sites without each student obtaining parental permission. Teachers may request that additional sites be added by completing this form.

Parents who do not want their child to set up an account on any of the following sites, must notify the school in writing. Generally, students will only set up accounts when directed to do so by their teacher or because they find the site useful in completing a school assignment.

Teachers and parents should note that some sites do not allow children under the age of 13 to create accounts regardless of parental permission.

You can see the list of sites that have already been approved for use here.

To further ensure the safety of our students and staff and in compliance with guidelines from the Alabama State Department of Education, Satsuma City Schools has also devised a Data Governance Plan to protect personal information.  You can view this plan here.
